Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is. -Mary Anne Radmacher Mysore, March 2012. Photo credit: Christine Hewitt. Advertisements Continue reading Live.Laugh.Love.Practice.
After teaching half led primary to a wonderful group of 17 people on a Saturday morning, one of the students asked me if I added something new to the sequence. The truth is I didn’t; of course I didn’t! Who am I to add anything to a perfect system? But, in fact, I have been teaching a few asanas that I was avoiding in classes I taught before my trip to Mysore. Ever since I started teaching yoga, all I wanted to do was share the practice of Ashtanga yoga. When you’re determined to teach Ashtanga (half) primary series in … Continue reading Inspirations from Students
Life after Mysore After having cried for the entire duration of my ride to Bangalore Int’l airport, I thought the life that I knew before my stay in Mysore never existed. How could it have existed – school, work, responsibilities, dreams set aside, fear? Contrary to what some think (parents, work colleagues and managers), one month in India was nowhere NEAR enough or a long time. And although I tried my absolute hardest to seize every second of my trip, I sometimes feel like I could have done so much more to make the moments last longer, or forever. But, … Continue reading Thank You, India
We have been in Mysore for 10 days, and I have gone through 7 practices so far. I am so happy with my experience at the shala, it has been beyond wonderful. As many have felt after a few practices in Mysore, I have noticed big improvements. I feel more connected with myself and with the practice. I have an even deeper appreciation for the primary series. More importantly, I find so much joy in getting one step closer to mastering an asana (like Marichyasana D) on a day-to-day basis. I have not been given the green light to practice … Continue reading Beautiful Mysore: Diving into Week 2
Tuesday February 28, 2012 It was a regular Tuesday night in Dubai.. I taught the 8:30pm class at Core Studio, just like I have been every Tuesday night for the last year and 3 months. 16 beautiful people powered through half of the Ashtanga Primary Series. After class, some people gathered around to ask questions about the sequence, about Mysore and to say good bye. On the drive back, i suddenly started crying.. and I had no idea why! Well.. maybe I did. I was scared and nervous. I had been nervous for a few days, even had 2nd thoughts … Continue reading Four Days and Four Nights in the Land of Ashtanga Yoga
How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes. My heart stumbles on things I don’t know. My weakness, I feel, I must finally show. Lend me your eyes, I can change what you see, but your soul you must keep totally free. In these bodies, we live. In these bodies, we will die. Where you invest your love, you invest your life. I am 6 days late, but I finally figured out what my new year resolution for 2012 is. As cliché as it sounds, a lot of meaning lies in the following promise I made to myself. This … Continue reading Awake My Soul
I often like to go on and on about the beautiful teachers I had the honor of studying with. Whenever I am given the chance, I show my friends videos of Mark and Joanne Darby, or tell them stories about a certain class that I can never forget because of how emotional or physically demanding it was. In Montreal, I asked for yoga and I instantly found the right practice, the right shala and the right teachers… for me. In Dubai, however, it took me a while. But that also led to developing a home practice (one that I am … Continue reading Rachel Brathen Yoga Lifestyle – Q&A
